the short version

the macOS app collects no usage data. no analytics, no telemetry, no anonymous beacons. lectern's network calls are exclusively for protocol operations: snapchain hub for farcaster reads/writes, optimism + base rpc for on-chain reads, blockscout for payment verification, catbox.moe for opt-in image uploads, and — when you enable it — the xmtp network for sovereign direct messages.

the web app at lctrn.app collects only what is necessary to bill, license, and email you. no third-party trackers.

what the macOS app stores

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Lectern/ — license, accounts cache, mutes, blocks, bookmarks, channel follows, drafts, themes, 2FA policy
  • macOS Keychain (studio.shyguy.lectern) — custody, recovery, signer privkeys, primary ETH wallet, TOTP secret

none of these leave your machine unless you explicitly export (e.g., lectern backup).

what the web app stores

  • email address (sign-in via magic link)
  • email delivery log (welcome only — no billing emails, no receipts)

no subscription state, no payment data, no license records — Lectern Pro is paid on-chain (USDC transfer to a published receiver address) and verified locally by the macOS app. We don't see your payment.

third parties

resend delivers email. supabase hosts the user database + signed-DMG bucket. vercel serves the website. blockscout (per-chain instances) verifies your USDC payment — your IP hits blockscout, not us. snapchain hubs (quilibrium and others you choose) serve farcaster reads/writes. the xmtp v3 network handles sovereign direct messages when enabled. catbox.moe hosts images you choose to upload from the composer. none of these run analytics on you on our behalf.
